In February, the club trialled a new format of a members-only round robin league competition where players organise their own matches over the course of one month. The idea is to have two matches with each opponent and see who comes out on top of the league at the end of all fixtures with no knock-out matches at the end.

This was a Verified UTR Event so players could make a big difference to their rankings with lots of guaranteed games to play. We also created a very useful Google Sheets tracker that can be used for future events as a more flexible way to communicate updates than the UTR site alone. Despite not being able to get many games played, the event was a lot of fun and we tool a lot of learnings for the next event (especially having pre-scheduled courts so players aren't left to organise themselves).

The final result ensured that players met for dinner and drinks with the top and bottom players paying for the drinks for all! We will definitely run this event again next year so reach out to anyone in the committee if you want to take part. In the meantime, indulge in the back story...
